This just proves my theory that Michael Stipe is a moron…

There’s an article at Slate about R.E.M. and their descent into irrelevance during the 90s…

During R.E.M.’s commercial peak, its members openly fretted about aging gracelessly, and the ’90s were their decadelong struggle with approaching middle age. “Hopefully, we’re not going to put out Chicago XIV,” Michael Stipe told Rolling Stone in 1992. “That would be my worst fear, that we would turn into one of those dumb bands who go into their second decade and don’t know how bad they are and don’t know when to give it up.”

Now admittedly, Chicago XIV was one of their worst albums, but it also marked the beginning of Chicago’s second run at the top which saw as much commercial success as their first, and introduced their music to a whole new generation. In retrospect, considering that R.E.M. has done absolutely nothing of note in the past decade, I’ll bet Michael Stipe *wishes* he had a Chicago XIV to put out.

One Month Down…

23 to go. It’s been a month since my last chemo treatment, and I went in last week for my first monthly follow-up… thankfully neither the blood tests nor the CT scans showed anything unusual!

Edit: Not quite in the clear… there’s some question as to whether or not my blood tests are normal. Nothing to be concerned about yet – just have to keep an eye on it for the time being.

Celebrity Sighting

A couple of days ago, I went to Subway to pick up a sandwich for lunch. Walked in the door, and noticed that it was much more crowded than usual, especially considering it was 2:30 in the afternoon. The next thing that caught my eye was a Channel 5 cameraman. I didn’t think much about it, as I was trying to decide between turkey and roast beef. As I’m trying to convince the “sandwich artist” that no, I don’t want any cheese, I notice that the guy next to me is none other than Jared, the Subway Guy:

So I said “hey”, grabbed my drink and chips, and drove back to work.

OK, so I didn’t say it was an exciting celebrity sighting…
