The Passion

My brief review:

Finally saw it yesterday… I’m not sure what to think. “Powerful” is about the only adjective I can think of, and it doesn’t begin to do it justice. Brutal, maybe. Definitely moving. I wanted it to be over – not because it was boring, but because it was so hard to watch. Regardless of what one thinks or believes about the subject matter, if you’re a fan of well-made movies, you should go see it.

With a couple of minor exceptions, I found it to be very Biblically accurate. The only part that really stuck in my mind was the flashback to Jesus’ time as a carpenter (there is no record of his work prior to his ministry, other than the fact that he was a carpenter).

I was glad to see they spent a lot of time on Simon of Cyrene (the guy who helped carry the cross). I’ve always found him an intriguing character. Not much is said about him in the Bible, but to actually, literally help Jesus carry the cross is an amazing story within itself.

While I think the anti-anti-Semitic backlash is way overblown, I have to admit I didn’t care too much for the cowardly pharisees. They were despicable. But that hardly translates into any desire to punch the next Hebrew I see…
