When it rains, it pours
…and I’m not talking about Hurricane Lili. Today was just one of those days where Murphy was in charge.
I finished up the UMTV site for the week, and went to take a late lunch break. I head down to Cool Springs to see what’s on sale at Best Buy. I come back out to my car, turn the ignition, and…. nothing. My battery was dead as a doornail.
So, I call Jessica and ask her to come give me a jump. Thankfully, she was able to get there soon, and with jumper cables, no less… thanks Jess!!! 🙂
I figure it would be a good idea to get my battery changed and not risk it dying on me again. So, I drive to the closest place I can find (Tires Plus), and ask if they can replace the battery for me. The greasemonkey says sure, as long as I can wait a couple of hours. Which irritates me, because I don’t have much of a choice at this point. So I take a walk for 15 minutes or so (it was a very humid 90 degrees today), then come back and ask for my keys, because “I can’t wait two hours for a five minute job”. To which the greasemonkey laughs at me, like I’m out of my mind for suggesting that a battery can be changed in a short time. Now, I *KNOW* I have had my battery changed before in less than 10 minutes on more than one occasion, so it *CAN* be done. Anyway, my car won’t start, so the point is moot.
I realize these guys have a line of vehicles waiting to be serviced, but my problem was *very* simple, and it was an emergency to boot. But could they help me out? Nooooooooooo. So I tell them to call me as soon as they start working on it, and head over to Sound Kitchen to see what Pickle was up to. Thankfully he was there, and wasn’t just crazy busy, so I hung out there for a while, getting in the way of his studio setup. I wait for an hour, then two, then three… still no call. It’s 5:00 at this point, and I’m worrying that the car place is going to close before I can at least get my keys back. Finally Pickle drives me over and lo and behold – they’ve already replaced the battery. And didn’t bother to call me! On top of it all, they charged me NINETY FRICKIN DOLLARS. $90!!!!?!?!? The last battery I bought was less than $50, and installed for FREE by the nice people at AutoZone.
The moral of this story? NEVER go to Tires Plus at Cool Springs, and tell everyone you know not to deal with them either. Horrible, horrible customer service.
The other moral to this story? It’s great to have friends like Jessica and Kevin who are willing to help out a brotha in need – thanks again guys!
