The Case for Faith/The Case for Christ

I finished reading The Case for Faith this afternoon. A good read, though not as good as Lee Strobel’s previous book, The Case for Christ. Both of these books take the approach of proving the Bible’s accuracy through investigative research (the author is a former atheist and investigative reporter).

The Case for Faith kind of lost steam near the end, but overall did a good job of answering many of the standard excuses one hears from skeptics – If there is a loving and just God, how can there be a Hell?, as well as that ever-popular assertion that Christianity is responsible for more deaths than both the World Wars combined (…or something like that). It’s not as convincing as The Case for Christ, but then again, the subject matter of the previous book lent itself more towards hard answers/proof.

One thing I did find interesting was in the section on evolution – the author makes it sound like the Big Bang theory is basically assumed to be true (though the result of the hand of God)… there is no mention of the creation story in Genesis 1-2. For me, it really isn’t a faith-shattering point one way or the other, but it would have been nice for him to tackle that particular hot topic among Christians. Just something I noticed.

I recommend both books to anyone – Christian and atheist alike.

Two food observations/questions

  • Since when did putting a semi-solid food (such as yogurt, jell-o, etc) into a tube and selling it to kids make said food “X-treme”?
  • This morning I tried one of those cereal bars with the “milk” already inside. I’m not sure what that substance is exactly, but it’s definitely not milk.

Catfish

I went with the catfish… and broccoli, and rice. Tasty.

So anyway, from time to time people will ask me: “Lane, whatever happened to your website? I visited it all time time – it was my favorite place to go on the web!” (italics = my embellishment)

Basically I just got busy doing other things. And since “things” in general are pretty quiet at the moment, I thought I’d get this site going again. And there you have it.

YEAH! Blogger is finally working…

I got a new toy today – an Apple iPod. Basically, a super-duper MP3 player that can hold literally thousands of songs… and it weighs less than a pound. That’s just coooool{/deep voice}.

I guess that means my old MP3 player is for sale. Then again, everything I own is for sale – right John? 😉

Well, it’s 7:15, and I haven’t had dinner yet. Catfish or ravioli… decisions, decisions…
