It’s Franchise Overload, Charlie Brown

I was watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas” earlier today, probably my favorite Christmas special. What’s funny is that it would never be made today… it’s far too low-key, it has a jazz soundtrack, and they actually have the audacity to mention Jesus. It’s funny how many Christmas shows today have some nebulous message about “the real meaning of the season”, yet miss the point entirely.

I know there are at least three other Peanuts Christmas specials. And of course everyone has seen “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, and “Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown”. But I was wondering how many other Peanuts specials were made. The answer is: A lot. A quick check over at IMDB shows there were at least 50 (!!!) – how some of these were ever made is beyond me… here are some of the less-famous specials:

“You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown”
“It’s Arbor Day, Charlie Brown”
“She’s A Good Skate, Charlie Brown”
“It’s Flashbeagle, Charlie Brown”
“You’re In The Super Bowl, Charlie Brown”
“It’s The Girl In The Red Truck, Charlie Brown”

Yeah, Mr. Schultz was scraping the bottom of the barrel with some of these. But the good Peanuts specials are timeless, so I guess you can’t blame him for trying to branch out.

Well, I’m going to hit the hay – we’ve all got a few busy days ahead of us.

Merry Christmas!
