Resident Evil 4

I’ve been a fan of the Resident Evil series since the Resident Evil Director’s Cut for the Playstation way back when. A lot of people complain about the now-cliched gameplay and “tank” controls, but I still love ’em.

Even so, I have to admit that the REworking (pun intended) of the series with Resident Evil 4 was a huge leap in the right direction. I played the first couple of chapters early this year, but just now have gotten around to (almost) finishing it. This is such a great game – on one hand, it is so stressful and tense that I hate to play it, but it’s so good that I can’t stop. It’s that perfect combination of challenge with a sense of progress. I’m probably an hour or two from finishing the game, but from what I understand there is a lot more game left once you finish the actual storyline. I just want to finish it though! I don’t see how people can play games like Baldur’s Gate 2 that require upwards of 100 hours to complete… even with a great game such as RE4, I’m 17 hours in and am ready for it to be done.

With that being said, once I’ve seen the ending, I plan on playing through it again icon_smile.gif Just a brilliant game. And supposedly the sequel isn’t too far off – can’t wait!

CNN has been on at work all day, and I have to say I am completely disgusted at everyone that is trying to turn the Hurricane Katrina issue into a political/racial fight. Not to mention the apparent glee with which they keep rebroadcasting the New Orleans mayor saying “G_d D__n” over and over again.

Driving to work today, I saw at least 15 “cherry picker” trucks heading south on I65, one after the other. I wonder if they were heading to the region affected by Hurricane Katrina….

After a month-long hiatus, I ran another 5K this past weekend. My time was 32:41, only six seconds behind my best time. So hopefully I’ll be able to set a new personal best this weekend… there’s actually three different 5Ks in the area – I suppose I’ll just run the one that’s closest. It looks like there will be 5Ks every weekend for the next couple of months, which is nice – lots to choose from. And a couple of 4 milers – I don’t know if I’m ready for those, but at least it would be a good workout for the 5Ks.

The past two races I’ve always been tailing someone who would stop and walk every now and then, just to start running again as I got close to them. It’s very annoying. But the nice thing is, even though my long distance stamina isn’t up to par, I’m still a pretty fast sprinter. In both cases I was able to pass them just as we approached the finish line. In other words:
